THREE youths are to face sentence in the New Year over an incident in which a man was robbed of cash at his Saffron Walden home.

Chelmsford Crown Court heard how the victim, in his 50s, was struck with a hammer after intruders broke into his home at Hill House on August 28 this year armed with an air rifle.

Matthew Cannon, 18, of Walden Road, Hadstock, and two 17-year-old juveniles pleaded guilty on Monday to aggravated burglary.

All three were remanded on bail until January 19.

Recorder John Dodd QC said the fact he was ordering pre-sentence reports was no indication of the eventual sentence. He said: "This is a very serious matter you have committed."

The arraignment of a 17-year-old youth was adjourned for two weeks.
