TESCO has been given the green light to expand in Saffron Walden - but Sainsbury’s bid to move into the town has been thrown out.

At an extraordinary meeting of Uttlesford District Council’s development control committee this afternoon, councillors accepted their officer’s recommendations that Tesco be allowed to extend its Radwinter Road store by around 50 per cent.

Members also followed officer’s advice in rejecting Sainsbury’s plans to build a new superstore in Thaxted Road.
