Shoppers in Saffron Walden were treated to a free smoothie... the only catch was they had to use their leg power to blend them.

Customers at the Radwinter Road Tesco over January 30-31 were offered the chance to get on a smoothie bike, which uses pedal power to turn fruit into juice.

Also running throughout the weekend was a competition where reaction times were put to the test.

Paul Westwood, manager, said: “We know during the first few months of a new year, a lot of our customers decide to become more active and to eat more healthily, and so we wanted to hold an activity in-store that would help to encourage and support our customers in making this change as well as giving them ideas on ways to do this.

“The smoothie bikes were great fun and customers were given recipes so that they could create their own at home. The healthy fun day created a fantastic atmosphere and the smoothies were a big hit.”
