A record amount was raised this year by members of Thaxted’s Cancer Research UK branch.
At The Star last Wednesday night, the group gathered to celebrate raising £9,000 for the charity. Fundraising events have included raffles and box collections at the Guildhall Stores, the Eric Hicks Charity Appeal and the annual fluathon in Thaxted surgery, where 750 patients were vaccinated and a total of more than £2,300 raised.
Chairman Ian Barnard told the Reporter: “It’s a record amount of money - £8,000 was our previous best.
“Since 1970 we’ve raised around £140,000. We are very proud of our members,” he added.
