A Dunmow restaurant was celebrating after being nominated for a British Curry Award.

The Jalsa Ghar, in Stortford Road, was one of 15 restaurants shortlisted in the South East category and the only establishment from Essex included.

Head waiter, Sultan Wright attended the awards night alongside chef Helal Miah to collect their finalist’s plaque.

Mr Wright, who has been with the Jalsa Ghar for nearly five years, said: “It was an absolutely amazing evening with great food. I would like to thank all of the customers for the support. Without the customers this wouldn’t have been possible. Thank you as well to our team and our management.”

Mr Wright added: “Thank you to our customers for being with us for the past 20 years. Thank you for voting for us so that we could get this great honour.”

The 13th Annual British Curry Awards took place at Battersea Evolution, in London, on November 26.
