CRIMINALS struck in Great Chesterford last week, entering cars and a house before stealing a valuable hatchback.

A series of incidents occurred in the village last Tuesday, causing hundreds of pounds' worth of damage and the loss of thousands of pounds' worth of property.

A purple VW Polo parked in Pilgrim Close was broken into, although nothing was taken.

Documents, cash and credit cards were also taken from a silver Mercedes-Benz CLK on the High Street.

On Newmarket Road, a black Audi TT was broken into and £4 was stolen from its interior. A Bosch battery drill, calculator, PDA and charger worth £1250 were stolen from inside a black Mitsubishi L200 nearby.

Also on Newmarket Road, thieves got into a blue Kia Sedona before stealing a Toshiba laptop worth £500. A green Land Rover Discovery on the same street suffered £150 damage when it had its rear nearside window removed, nothing was stolen.

The most serious incident occurred in Jackson's Lane, when thieves entered a house, sometime between 11.15pm and 7.15am last Wednesday.

A mobile phone and a wallet containing cash and credit cards were taken from inside before the thieves drove off in the owner's black VW Golf TDi. The total value of the haul was £12,500.
