Dr Dan Gordon, principal lecturer in Sports Science at Anglia Ruskin University, has given his verdict as to how Monday’s (July 7) Tour de France stage race will pan out.
Dr Gordon represented Great Britain in cycling at the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens and carries out research into the physiological demands of cycling.
He said: “The route is actually very flat with almost no climbing required of the peloton. There are very few places that would suit a lone breakaway but a larger group may prevail, especially on the narrower roads through Essex.
“In all probability this stage will come down to mass sprint finish and I would put my money on Mark Cavendish.”
