Visitors flocked to Audley End House and Gardens at the weekend to enjoy all things apple at a festival celebrating the fruit.

The house’s Apple Festival provided an opportunity for guests to taste more than 150 varieties and see how Victorians would have cooked apples in the service wing.

Children also enjoyed apple-themed craft activities, a bobbing competition and a falconry display.

A live folk band played throughout the Saturday and Sunday (September 24-25) festival, which attracted thousands of people over the two days.

Alan North, head gardener at Audley End, said: “It was wonderful to see so many visitors enjoying the garden at Audley End House and the Apple Festival in such glorious weather.

“The walled garden is such a perfect spot and with the live folk music, the interesting craft stalls and all the children’s activities it created a really fabulous atmosphere for everyone.”
