Thousands of people gathered to watch Father Christmas switch on the festive lights in Dunmow on Saturday.
As well as the big switch on, families could watch live music, take a spin in the teacup ride or have their picture taken in a giant snow globe.
Zoe Brady, a member of the Great Dunmow Town Team, which organises the switch on, said; “The event was well attended. There were between 2000 and 3000 people. The high street looked pretty packed with people. We had 14 craft stalls so people were able to browse as well... Father Christmas was a big hit.
There were donation buckets during the day, and the money raised will go towards organising next year’s event.
Mrs Brady said: “We haven’t counted everything up but last year we raised about £1000 and I am hoping it will be a similar amount to that.”
The Christmas lights switch on is organised by a few people who are part of the town team, which is a voluntary organisation made up of local businesses. Next year the town team want to form a separate committee to organise the event. If you would like to be involved contact the town team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
