FOUR pupils from Great Sampford Primary School proved to be the best of the best after winning the Essex County Mathematics Challenge.
Having won the regional heat, 11-year-olds Harry Brown, Izzy Kingston, Joseph Thorogood and Joseph Webber went through to the final in Colchester. Competing against eight other regional winning teams, they were set a number of tasks designed to bamboozle them.
However, they worked as a team and cogitated, puzzled and ruminated through everything that was thrown at them to end up as outright winners.
Headteacher Ian Pollard said: "The team did fantastically well and considering that we only have 96 pupils at the school, to win the county competition is brilliant. It really is something to be proud of.
