Thunderstorms and heavy rain are causing havoc for commuters this morning (Friday, Sept 16), with trains cancelled after lightning damaged signalling systems in the Broxbourne area.

Train services between London Liverpool Street and Cambridge are suspended between Cheshunt and Bishops Stortford, as well as cancellations between Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport via Tottenham Hale.

Greater Anglia is advising customers not to travel between Liverpool Street and Cambridge, Hertford East and Stansted Airport and between Bishop’s Stortford and Stratford via Tottenham Hale and Lea Bridge.

Another lightning strike at Brandon has also caused disruption to Greater Anglia services between Cambridge and Norwich, and the operator says it is trying to organise buses between Ely and Thetford.
