AROUND 50 families struck gold during a treasure hunt at Saffron Walden's seven art galleries.

Participants had to find the names of the galleries that housed certain images, which were supplied by event organisers.

The event was part of the Saffron Walden Arts Festival and proved to be a real success.

Secretary of the Saffron Walden Arts Trust, Ulrike Balser, said it provided "incredible encouragement" for people to appreciate the exhibits on display.

"The festival took the art to the people. It reached out to people who would not normally be reached by art," she said.

The treasure hunt was given excellent feedback from those who took part. Adult winner Clive Weatherley and child winners Hannah Reynolds, Sophie Reynolds and Caelum Spearing received prizes donated by Harts Books.
