Over 100 people took part in a 17- mile Trek for Tom on Sunday, November 20 which saw walkers stomping in the rain from Saffron Walden to Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
They raised over £4,500 for children with brain tumours, through a charity called Tom’s Trust which supports children’s rehabilitation at the Cambridge Hospital, the Brainbow Service.
The idea of the trek came from a group of dog-walkers from Petpals, a dogwalking and sitting service.
The organisers, Pippa Barron, Neil Sargent, Jodie Rowlandson and
Emma Thompson ran the event after they found that several children in the region had used the service that the charity provides and they wanted to make a difference both to their
friends’ children and others who were going through treatment for brain tumours.
Tom’s Trust is a charity that was set up in July 2011 by Andrew and Deborah Whiteley had lost their son to a brain tumour in November 2010.

Spokesman Kirsty Keegan said: “Among the walkers were parents who have had children that have used the Brainbow service and they know what a difference it can make to the time they are in hospital and returning to life back home. Thanks to all involved with this wonderful event and welcome to Team Tom.”
