YOUTH members of the Saffron Walden Musical Theatre Company were busy promoting their up-coming production, Lionel Bart's Blitz! in Market Square on Saturday.

The young actors donned their World War II costumes and make-up to publicise the show, which is being presented at the Town Hall from April 29 to May 2.

When it opened in 1962, Blitz! was the most expensive West End musical ever produced.

Set in London's East End during the Blitz, the story draws on Lionel Bart's childhood memories of London's Jewish East End during the war. It centres on a romance between a young couple, a Jewish woman and a Cockney man, seen through the eyes of Mrs Blitztein, the young woman's mother.

The romance is played out before famous London landmarks, including Bank underground station and Petticoat Lane, with the Blitz itself as the dramatic back drop.

SWMTC Youth Group will be aiming to continue with the success of their recent previous productions Les Miserables and My Fair Lady.

Tickets start from 6 and can be bought from the Tourist Information Centre or by calling the ticket secretary on 07762 716402.
