TWO men were arrested in Bromfield, Saffron Walden, on Saturday night in connection with a stabbing incident.

A 30 and a 40-year-old man suffered cuts to their heads and hands outside a block of flats at about 10.30pm.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Two men were taken by ambulance to Addenbrooke's Hospital and treated for their injuries after suffering cuts to their heads and hands in Bromfield at about 10.30pm and were later discharged."

Police said a 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing GBH with intent and a 30-year-old man was arrested for causing ABH.

Both men were released on police bail until mid-April pending further enquiries.

Less than four hours later police arrested and charged a Saffron Walden man for wasting police time after they received a hoax call reporting a stabbing near the Swan Meadow Car Park.

Sebastian Vince, of Park Lane, was traced via his telephone to his home address following the hoax call at 1.56am on Sunday morning, in which he claimed his friend had been hurt and needed help.

Sgt Glasgow said: "An ambulance was called and three officers from Saffron Walden attended. We were concerned that the incident may have been connected to the earlier stabbing incident at the time."

Mr Vince is due to appear at Harlow Magistrates' Court today, Thursday, and have three other offences taken into consideration.

And on what was a busy night for Saffron Walden police, officers also helped break up an illegal rave while it was being organised at an agricultural building at Spain's End in Great Sampford.

Two officers from Saffron Walden and four others were called to the Great Sampford rave having received calls from concerned residents.

Sgt Paul Glasgow said: "A convoy of four to five vehicles was reported to be travelling around Great Sampford and Hempstead.

"Two officers from Saffron Walden, four officers from Braintree and Yeldham, a helicopter and a dog unit were deployed and located 12 people setting up a music system in an agricultural building.

"Music equipment and a large generator were seized and six people were detained but not charged.

"They had enough equipment to make it a big thing, although not on the same scale as the rave in Great Chesterford on

August 26."

Operations commander, Supt Colin Steele, said: "We would like to thank the residents of Great Sampford as they helped officers identify these people, our thanks especially go to one particular taxi driver who contacted us to give us some important information.
