Uttlesford District Council are warning residents after a scam letter requesting money for outstanding council tax charges is being circulated in the area.
The council say the letter is from a company alleging to be called QDC Collection Agents, with a PO Box address in Macclesfield, and informs residents that they owe £67.50 in late charges.
A spokesman for UDC said: “This is a scam letter and has not been sent by the council nor on behalf of the council. This has also occured recently in the Brentwood area.
“Any residents who have made payments using the details on the letter should call police on 101 and ask to be put through to the Essex Crime Bureau so it can be logged with them.
“Please be mindful if you receive any correspondance which raises questions, and if you have any doubts, contact the council on 01799 510510.”
