A former Cambridge city councillor has been announced as the UKIP candidate for Saffron Walden at the general election next year.

Peter Day, 66, who worked as a city councillor in Cambridge in the 1980s, lives with his wife Fiona in Sandy, a market town in Bedfordshire. Both he and his wife are professional singers and entertainers.

Mr Day says his focus in the constituency would be on the challenges of achieving a balance between a growing Stansted airport, Broomfield Hospital and housing development needs in the area.

He said: “UKIP has recently enjoyed fantastic success in winning the European elections and two by-elections. We now have 24 MEPs and two MPs and this proves that if people really want change and vote for it, then anything and everything is possible! Now, our task is to win Saffron Walden and as the PPC, if elected I would devote my time to fighting for the interests of all the people in the constituency.”
