A UNIQUE musical experience showcasing rarely heard 19th century instruments was hosted by Saffron Walden Museum on Saturday.
The Angel, the Serpent and the Iron Cello took place at the Baptist Church on Saffron Walden High Street to raise funds for the museum's Heritage Quest Centre Appeal.
Quintus Benziger and friends played instruments including an ophicleide, also known as a keyed serpent, and a keyed bugle, as well as an iron cello made in 1830.
Curator Maureen Evans said: "The programme of music and readings ranged from the tavern, to the concert platform, to the church pew.
"The evening was built around rarely seen and heard instruments from the museum's collections that were formerly played in 19th Century church and town bands in and around Saffron Walden.
