MEMBERS of UNISON Uttlesford Local Government Branch joined hundreds of thousands of people on Saturday in London for the TUC’s March for Public Services.

More than 250,000 people – not just Trade Unions members, but people from all walks of life and all ages – joined together to protest at the effects the Government’s cuts on public services are having on their jobs and their lives.

People travelled from all over the country to join the march, which was followed by a rally in Hyde Park where the crowds listened to Leader of the TUC Brendan Barber, Leader of the Labour Party Ed Milliband and UNISON’s General Secretary Dave Prentis, among many others.

One member, Richard Snape, took his family along with him. His wife said: “I’m here to support my husband because what happens to him affects the whole family.”

Branch secretary Val Rogacs: “It was a great day out, a real carnival atmosphere with everyone being so friendly but not forgetting the vital message being sent to Government that they cannot keep cutting our public services without hurting those who need them the most and putting thousands out of work will not help the country to recover.”
