POLICE remain at the scene of a fatal road collision that has resulted in the closure of both carriageways of the A120.
The incident happened between Stansted Airport and the turn-off for Dunmow.
Police were called at 9.24am today (Wednesday June 8) following reports that a heavy goods vehicle had crashed on the eastbound carriageway and crossed through the central reservation. The driver of the lorry was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fire crews from Dunmow, Stansted, Newport, Leaden Roding and Harlow were called to the accident after large quantities of diesel had been spilled on to the roads.
The eastbound carriageway of the A120 is likely to remain closed until 6pm but could be considerably later if major repairs are needed to the road surface.
It is hoped that one lane of the westbound carriageway can be re-opened by 12.30pm
Police are currently turning vehicles trapped in a queue on the eastbound carriageway.
Both the Ambulance Service and Essex Air Ambulance were in attendance.
