PERSONNEL from the United States Air Force in Europe dropped into Imperial War Museum Duxford to give a flavour of American Air Day - which is to be held at Duxford on Friday (August 21).

On Wednesday (August 12) a MC-130 H/P Transport aircraft flew into Duxford, while Major General Mark Zamzow, United States Air Force in Europe, and Major Robert A Lindblom, 48th Fighter Wing, RAF Lakenheath chatted about American Air Day and its ethos.

Major Gen Zamzow said: "This is our opportunity to thank our British friends and neighbours for their fantastic support of us and our mission.

"We get to show them our training, and get to talk to them one-on-one. We think this will be a great show with a little something for everyone to enjoy."

Major Lindblom said: "It's a pleasure to bring this third annual American Air Day event to the people of East Anglia and the surrounding areas.

"It's an excellent opportunity to bring citizens of both nations together in the spirit of friendship to honour our deep ties and enjoy a fun-filled day.

"It's also a chance for us to showcase what we do every day as American airmen and to educate the public on our mission and roles."

American Air Day showcases the work of the United States Air Force in Europe and in particular, the Third Air Force, partially based in the United Kingdom.

The family-friendly day comprises a rich mixture of flying and ground-based displays, including fly-pasts by many of the USAFE aircraft based in East Anglia, flown from RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath.

On the ground, USAFE personnel will be showcasing their work in the UK, as well as explaining more of the intricate details of their aircraft, equipment and missions.

There will be security dog demonstrations and a fire department display complete with fire truck, a display of stunning American cars and motorbikes, bird of prey demonstrations and USAFE's own rock group, Touch 'n' Go, will be playing throughout the day.

The day also acknowledges the historic link between Duxford and the United

States Air Force that dates back to 1918 and is represented today by the stunning

American Air Museum in Britain which is based on site at Imperial War Museum

Duxford.

All flying is subject to weather, serviceability and operational commitments.
