Uttlesford ranked 20th in the country for call outs to deal with rats, a new survey has revealed.

The British Pest Control Association (BPCA) published the scale of rodent infestation in the past year. There were 883 call outs to the council to deal with rats and 85 for mice.

When it came to all pests – including rodents, cockroaches, wasps, bed bugs, birds and other mammals – Uttlesford ranked 31st in the country with 1,576 calls.

BPCA chief executive, Simon Forrester, said: “Local authorities are under immense strain to come up with savings. The BPCA wants to make sure this doesn’t have an impact on public health.”
