A CHORAL society will be singing songs of love at a concert billed to get people in the mood for Valentine's Day.

The Granta Chorale will be performing at All Saints Church, Great Chesterford at 7.30pm on Saturday February 13.

The concert, entitled Heartsong, will intersperse a varied musical program with narrative from guest reader Neil Marshall and will promote the work of the charity, Hope and Homes for Children (HHC).

Working across central and Eastern Europe and Africa, HHC transforms the lives of children who are orphaned, abandoned or vulnerable.

Chairman of the Chesterford HHC support group, Mark Gamble, said: "I hope that the concert will raise local awareness of the important contribution this charity makes by bringing hope and purpose into the lives of individual children in otherwise miserable situations.

"There will be information available about the charity's work and surplus proceeds from ticket sales and interval refreshments will go to the charity."

The Granta Chorale, formed in 2007, is a small chamber choir of about 22 singers from the region performing a wide variety of music from the renaissance to the present day, much of it a capella, often juxtaposing music in contrasting styles. They have received enthusiastic reviews of their performances in historic churches throughout the area.

Tickets are available from Saffron Walden Tourist Information Centre, from Granta Choral tickets at 01223 570613; Mark Gamble on 01799 530951 or Peter Whalley on 01799 530540.
