POLICE were forced to close a road during rush hour after a van became wedged under a railway bridge in Great Chesterford.
A Dunmow woman in her 40s was attempting to drive her white Vauxhall Movano van under the bridge, on London Road, at about 3.30pm yesterday (Tuesday) when the collision happened.
Network Rail engineers attended the scene to check the structure of the bridge had not been comprised but train services were not disrupted.
The road was closed until shortly before 8pm when the vehicle was recovered.
An Essex Police spokesman said officers were investigating the circumstances of the crash and considering a prosecution for careless driving against the woman.
