'Versions of Christmas' at Saffron Walden Library

PUBLISHED: 08:01 30 November 2013

A Christmas poem written more than 300 years ago by a Saffron Walden man and an 'updated' version of Come All Ye Faithfull by Spike Mays, the popular author who grew up at Ashdon, will be among the highlights of the next meeting of the Saffron Walden Town Library Society.

The meeting, described as ‘Versions of Christmas’ will feature a selection of short readings including “verses, anecdotes, reports and footnotes” which highlight a range of festive experiences, in “varying shades of anticipation, jollity, reverence and inebriation, undergone by characters from different regions of the world at different periods, including a few old favourites, plus others gleaned from some of the less well-frequented volumes in the town library; as recounted by Gordon Cummings, Jean Schofield, Trevor Osbourn, and Len Pole”.

The meeting will be held in Saffron Walden Library on Wednesday, December 11, at 8pm. There is disabled access.
