The northbound carriageway of the M11 has been closed following a crash between junctions 7-8.
Police have described the incident as a “very serious crash” and have advised motorists to avoid the area and plan alternate routes.
The road is closed northbound and “very slow” southbound, according to officers.
Two cars, a van and a horsebox are believed to have been involved in the collision.
The stretch of road affected is between Junction 7 (Harlow) and Junction 8 (Bishop’s Stortford and Stansted Airport).
