PEOPLE in Birchanger are the first in the district to unite and draw up a parish plan, which sets out their vision for the village.

Drawn up through an 18-month consultation process involving all residents who wished to participate, the plan contains the Birchanger Village Statement, with the parish council outlining its intention to fight to protect the green belt land around the village.

The plan will be taken into account in future planning process by Uttlesford District Council.

District Cllr Elizabeth Goodwin said: "The plan has been put together by a great team of volunteers including some from the parish council.

"Team meetings were held at my house and we produced, distributed and collected questionnaires for every household, collated responses and also contributed to the writing of the plan.

"Both the deputy chairman of the parish council, Philip Hoy, and myself have been very keen to focus on it for some years and it's thanks to the hard work of the team that the plan is now complete."

Executive manager for development services at UDC, John Mitchell, said: "It is a remarkable achievement of all in the Birchanger parish who have worked so hard in its completion.
