A VILLAGE post office which has been closed for nearly a year was reopened on Friday.

Radwinter Post Office has been re-launched as an outreach service open for six hours a week.

Clerk of Radwinter Parish Council, Ray Jones, said: "The opening went very well and word is getting around the village that the service is available.

"Our main thought in doing this is the benefit it will bring to people who are less mobile. The bus links in to Walden are not the best."

The post office, which is located in the village hall, will be open on Tuesdays from 10am to 1pm and on Fridays from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.

The reopened branch will offer the same range of services as before and allow customers to collect benefits in cash using the banking services or Post Office card account.

The outreach service is being run by the postmaster from the West Wickham branch and has been guaranteed by Post Office Ltd for two years.

A Post Office spokesman said: "The establishment of an outreach service presents the best possible solution and I hope customers and the community as a whole will join us in welcoming and supporting our agent in their new venture.
