SAFFRON Walden’s Waitrose store has handed over a 250 cheque to the mayor’s charity, Uttlesford Volunteer Centre.
The cash was raised through the supermarket’s Community Matters scheme, which runs in store and raises money for three good causes each month – customers simply drop in a green token for the cause of their choice and 1,000 is split accordingly.
Some of the money raised in December went to the volunteer centre – Saffron Walden mayor Cliff Treadwell’s charity – which helps people to find suitable volunteering opportunities in the district, and helps local voluntary organisations to find volunteers.
