SAFFRON Walden turned out in numbers for the premiere of Walden 24: A Day in the Life of Saffron Walden at Saffron Screen at the weekend.

Sell out crowds at both screenings enjoyed the familiar faces and scenes depicting 24 hours in the life of this modern market town.

Sunday’s screening was introduced by the Walden 24 producer, Peter Riding. He said: “We picked a Tuesday in May because that would be a market day but otherwise it would be a normal day for schools and businesses. We were lucky with the weather and the filming with five local camera crews and 55 local groups and organisations went according to plan.

“The footage was then patiently edited by David Gibsone over a three month period. Everyone involved has done an amazing job.”

Saffron Walden Mayor Bob Eastham said: “What a privilege it is to live in a town where there is so much sense of community. We all know how much goes on every day in Saffron Walden, but we don’t often appreciate how many people work incredibly hard in order for us to be able to enjoy our surroundings.

“I sincerely thank Peter Riding and the Saffron Walden Initiative for their dedication in producing this film.”

Due to the success of the film, Saffron Screen will be showing Walden 24 on the big screen again during its November/December schedule. The programme will be published at the end of October and will also be available online at saffronscreen.com.

For those wishing to purchase a DVD of the film, forms are available at the Tourist Information Centre or from the Saffron Walden Initiative website at swinitiative.org
