A FATHER-of-three from Saffron Walden has been stabbed in the chest whilst on vacation in Brazil.

Phillip Sills, a 61-year-old doctor from the Rectory Practice in Castle Street, was attacked whilst walking outside his hotel with wife, Alice, on Rio de Janeiro's Ipanema Beach on Thursday (January 22).

It has been reported that Mr Sills was trying to stop the thief from stealing the couple's camera when the attack happened at around 10.30am.

His condition was described as 'stable' by a Rio Cardiotrauma hospital spokesman who said his life was not in danger. Mrs Sills, who suffered a cut to her hand, is by his bedside.

Police are now using hotel CCTV images that captured the man fleeing the scene, a spokesman said: "We are hunting for man in his 20s, and we have a team out on the streets searching for him.
