CHARITABLE walkers turned out in force on Sunday for sponsored walks in memory of late Wendens Ambo resident David Gibson.

People taking part in the sponsored treks could opt to do either a 5km or a 10km route, both starting and finishing at the Fighting Cocks pub in the village.

Landlady Rita Bolton said: "The walk was a great success, with people of all ages taking part.

"We had an 84-year-old, Albert Cook, walking with his 81-year-old wife Mabelle.

"At the other end of the spectrum, Casey Bolton, who's just 17 months old, managed to walk 2.5km on her reins."

The walk is the second in memory of David Gibson, who was a much-loved character in the village.

Last year's event raised around £1,700 for the Arthur Rank Hospice, where Mr

Gibson spent the last part of his life.

Sunday's event raised a provisional target of £1,400, with more still to be collected.
