BUDDING artists spent the morning sculpting imaginative characters, as well as self-portraits, out of clay on Saturday.

Youngsters at the Wee Red Art School, based at Wendens Ambo village hall, created clay busts and had lots of fun in the process.

Art teacher Geri Jones said: "It was lovely to see the children with their masterpieces. They really enjoyed the activity and made wonderful busts."

The school was set up four years ago, but took a break when Mrs Jones fell pregnant with twins.

The school has only recently reopened and now Mrs Jones is looking to inspire more children to take up art.

"The children do different things every week, including lino prints, acrylic painting and sculpture," she said. "They get the opportunity to do things that are either to messy or too expensive to do at home or at school.

"The classes are designed to take children on a bit further from what they do at school, but the emphasis is very much on having fun."
