STORMY weather prompted over 800 emergency calls to Essex Police during a 24-hour period over the weekend.

On Saturday officers dealt with over 1300 calls to emergency and non-emergency telephone numbers - 98 of them were regarding fallen trees.

Other calls came in concerning minor vehicle crashes, fallen electric cables, alarms being triggered and flooding.

With more storms on the way, Essex Police have urged motorists to drive with caution, watch out for flood water on roads and remember to put car lights on in gloomy weather.
