Police, ambulance and fire crews attended a suspected chemical incident at an address in Saffron Walden yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, May 31).

The emergency services arrived at Crawley Hobbs Close, near Debden Road, shortly after 3.30pm, and a woman was treated by paramedics for burns to her hands. She was later discharged from the scene.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “Officers attended an address in Crawley Hobbs Close shortly after 3.30pm on May 31, following concern for the welfare of a woman. Officers found that no offences had been committed.”

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 3.37pm and an ambulance, an ambulance officer and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) attended a suspected chemical incident.

“Crews treated a woman who had burns to hands and shortness of breath, and she was discharged from the scene after treatment.”
