Engineers are set to finish repairs to an underground pipe in the centre of Saffron Walden.
Anglian Water contractors highlighted urgent work after a sewer in Market Square collapsed. After consulting Saffron Walden Town and Essex County councils, engineers used “no-dig technology” to reduce the scale of excavation needed.
The road surface was restored by today (Friday) and the work is expected to be completed by the end of next week.
Nik Shelton, an Anglian Water spokesman, said: “Once we investigated the pipe and found the collapse it was an urgent job to get it fixed.
“Unfortunately as this was right in the centre of the town the work has inevitably has caused some disruption, however we have sought to keep that to a minimum to ensure market days were uninterrupted.
“We’d like to thank all the market traders and nearby businesses for their patience as we complete this vital job.”
