Roald Dahl’s Big Friendly Giant, Gimli from The Lord of the Rings and of course a handful of Hermione Grangers could be spotted this year.

A book sale, reading sessions and decorating the library were some of the activities Uttlesford schools took part in.

A spokesman from Dunmow St Mary’s Primary School said: “We had an incredible array of interesting and noteworthy costumes across the school which sparked many conversations about characters, books and authors that we love.”

A spokesman from Great Easton Primary said: “ We had a book sale and we made decorations for our recently renovated library. Staff and parents reading to groups of children at the end of the day. It was fun-filled and action packed.”
