PUPILS at St Mary’s Primary School in Saffron Walden have been gearing up for the arrival of the Olympic Torch with a visit from one of Great Britain’s paralympic hopefuls.
Wheelchair athlete Richard Chiassaro, who is hoping to compete for his country in the 100m, 200m and 400m events at the London 2012 Paralympics, spoke to the children about his medal hopes and answered questions from the floor.
The 30-year-old, from Harlow, secured victory in the T54 100m in Manchester in a time of 15.04 seconds at the BT Paralympic World Cup in May.
Pupils also made their own Olympic Torches, had an Olympic-themed sports day and held an International Food Night on Tuesday evening, where they enjoyed meals from across the globe.
