With a theme of Peace in the World, the congregation at St Mary’s Church in Saffron Walden dressed up in costumes representing different nations for their annual Christmas Fair last weekend.

The event raised £6,000 towards the restoration of the church. Organiser Patrick Li said: “About 1,000 people came, we had refreshments in the Parish Rooms and the food was very good. We had organised some dancers who didn’t arrive but some people started dancing for fun and I think we will make that a regular feature because they were wonderful.”

Music was provided by the church’s brass band and by St Mary’s Choral Scholars conducted by Saffron Walden County High pupil Liam Goddard. The Vicar of St Mary’s The Reverend David Tomlinson added: “There was a lovely atmosphere. The organising team worked very hard and it was lovely to welcome so many people from the town and beyond to this Christmas event.”
