YOUNGSTERS played Nintendo Wii and shot some pool at the official opening of a Saffron Walden youth club.

The Golden Acre Community Centre on Ross Close opened its doors to the town's young people, as well as invited guests, at the launch on Thursday evening.

The youth club, which will run two sessions every Thursday, has been organised by the Saffron Walden Youth Outreach Project (SWYOP).

Chairman of the SWYOP and town mayor Cllr Mike Hibbs said he was very pleased with the opening and hoped the club would become a valuable resource for the town's youngsters.

"They have been campaigning for a local club of their own for some time and are delighted at being let into the community centre rather than hanging about outside," he said.

The club will be run by youth workers Kerry Seddon and Sarah Henson. The early evening session for 10 to 13 year olds will run from 5.45pm to 7.45pm followed by a later session, from 8pm to 10pm, for over 13s.

Anyone interested in volunteering for the club should contact Jiff Godfrey on 01799 523645.
