WALKING along Ashdon Road last week I noticed that the man in front of me kept turning round and looking my way. I feared the worst!

Suddenly he turned right round facing me, stood on the kerb and raised his arm. I was relieved when I heard a bus drawing up for him.

It suggested an answer to a question I heard a visitor recently ask in the Tourist Information Centre: "Where do buses stop in Saffron Walden?"

The answer seemed to be "Guess". Surely, if we are being encouraged to use public transport, the first step is to clearly mark where buses stop - request as well as regular? The next step is to publish one timetable for all of the buses that travel in and around the town.
