Your headline last week ('Aircraft noise set to rise over town') needs clarification.

You state that some outbound traffic from Stansted will pass over and "intersect Little Walden and Saffron Walden".

Two points: such take-offs towards the north-east are only when the wind is from that direction, a relatively rare occurrence, and the precision required for the aforementioned intersection does not exist, the route crossing anywhere between the town and Hadstock.

For the above scenario, stacking of inbound aircraft would be a long way beyond Bishop's Stortford.

The holding area for the more usual approach to Stansted is planned to be "over Linton, Balsham, West Wickham and Hadstock".

Stacking involves joining at about 5000m (15,000ft) and spiralling downwards, on reduced power and reduced noise, to exit at about 2000m (5000ft) for final approach.

We hear a lot on the subject of Stansted from the vocal minority but I do wonder what the majority think.
