What is happening at our local leisure centre? A few weeks ago it was reported that the tennis courts cannot be used for their intended purpose as they are in a state of disrepair and there is no money for refurbishment.

Today I tried to book a squash court for peak time on a Wednesday evening only to be told that they are all booked out for the "triathletes to use for cycling".

On questioning this and being under the, obviously false, illusion that they are meant for squash I was told that: "they pay a bit extra and block book them".

Now I realise that the organisation that runs Lord Butler is only in it for the money, but I feel that the centre should be there for everyone to enjoy their chosen pursuit not just as a money-making concern.

I can understand there being multiple usages of facilities during the daytime when they are underused - but during the peak period?

I do appreciate the amenities on offer and think that we are lucky to have them but feel that a little more thought should be given to ensuring that the customer comes first.
