HAVING read the article in the Reporter dated October 12 concerning the damages to Mrs Kelman's property through collision with a lorry, I wanted to write and express my sympathy and whole-hearted support for her petition.

My husband and I moved to Saffron Walden at the end of March 2006. Previously, we lived in South Woodford. Our home was approximately 200 yards from the end of the M11 motorway and the same distance from the A406. We came to Saffron Walden expecting it to be quieter and more peaceful. We couldn't have been more wrong!

Although there is a 30mph speed limit throughout Saffron Walden, this does not seem to be policed in any effective way and is certainly not adhered to by the vast majority of motorists.

Huge lorries thunder down tiny roads, totally unsuitable for such use; tiny motorbikes roar around the roads making an unacceptable amount of noise and the general volume of traffic is a growing concern.

We are approximately 200 yards from Radwinter Road. On most days, this resembles Brands Hatch racing circuit!

Traffic roars along incessantly, most passing over the broken manhole cover which has been awaiting repair ever since we moved in.

Large delivery vans and heavy traffic caught at the lights at the bottom of Charters Hill rev their engines and roar away when the lights change.

I hope this letter is of help to Mrs Kelman's campaign, I look forward to hearing more.
