I WAS amazed to discover that the 1st Saffron Walden Scout Group are now treated as a trade customer by Uttlesford District Council.

Previous to the wheelie bin introduction they have had their waste collected on a Monday along with other residents of the High Street.

It appears that this is no longer the case; they have been informed that no black bags will be collected in future on a Monday and that they have to put their rubbish out for Thursday collections with other trade waste collections.

For this they need to purchase blue bags.

I understand that they have purchased a larger quantity to save a little bit of money - even so it appears to have cost them more than £100, which is an expense they had not expected.

Surely Uttlesford District Council should recognise this, after all the Scouts do a very worthwhile job for the youngsters of our town and it would be a shame if this cost would impair their good work.
