We have ludicrous licensing laws

I WOULD love to hear of a single resident of Museum Street, Saffron Walden who has lived there for more than 120 years since before Saffron Walden Conservative Club began having live music and dances.

Unless SWCC have been unduly careless with their disco volumes recently, I do not need ever to have visited the club to object on principle to the licence withdrawal. Given that SWCC's £20,000 soundproofing refit is under way, why the reaction by Uttlesford District Council before the work is done?

Whilst discos are notorious for being too loud, it is despicable that all live music should suffer as a consequence, thanks to our ludicrous licensing laws. A century of community entertainment possibly halted by complaints from residents who cannot possibly antecede the alleged disturbances?

Perhaps, despite having lived in Whittlesford for only six years, I likewise have the right to have all flights from the nearby Duxford Imperial War Museum prevented from flying over our house? I think not. Who was there first?
