I WRITE in response to your front page story on August 3 about parking in Borough Lane. It seems to me the simplest and most cost-effective solution would be to put a double yellow line from London Road up to the Debden Road junction to permit parking only on one side of the road.

The constant and potentially dangerous blockages where buses and lorries have to reverse either back onto London Road, or right back up Borough Lane to the hazardous Debden Road crossroads would be avoided and police time would not be wasted.

Notices were posted on lampposts in Borough Lane and Springhill Road in April 2005, stating that yellow lines were proposed for parts of Borough Lane, Springhill Road and Mandeville Road, but there has been no sign of painters in 16 months.

Enquiries to the council have produced no further information. It would seem that although the problem is virtually on their doorstep, no-one at UDC will take responsibility for solving it.
