Saffron Walden youngsters impressed for the under-14 Cambridgeshire squad as they finished second at their regional championships.

Charlie Underwood and James Watson both scored vital goals, while George Oakes led a dogged defence which only conceded two goals in six games.

Cambridgeshire finished unbeaten in the tournament but had to settle for the runners-up spot following a last-minute equaliser from Norfolk.

*Saffron Walden’s men ended their season on a high with a 7-0 win over Blueharts, condeming their rivals to relegation.

Both sides had clearcut chances early on, but Walden were more clinical in front of goal and claimed an early lead to take control.

Ben Wells, Matt Wells and Kieran Greig all finished with two goals apiece, with George Pitfield also getting on the scoresheet.

Walden can now enjoy the summer ahead of another East Premier A campaign.
