Saffron Walden completed the derby double over Sawston & Babraham to keep their early season form going.

The eight-run success means they are now second in the East Anglian Premier League, while there was the double celebration of seeing Australian pro Jake Fraser-McGurk make his debut.

Having been used to the hard, dry tracks of Melbourne, a damp one in Cambridgeshire proved tough to get to grips with straight away and he managed just four, part of a top-order struggle that left Walden 55-5.

But Harry Gallian (21), Finn Karsten (22) Ashleigh Cox (39) and Ben Harris (21) had other ideas and managed to drag the visitors up to 144 before they were finally all out in the 48th over.

Cox was back to open the bowling and proved unplayable at times, unlucky not to pick up a five-wicket haul as he finished on 4-11.

A 52-run fourth-wicket partnership from Charlie Lewis (48) and Ben Cliverd (22) put Sawston in the driving seat but wickets kept falling, and Karsten's slower ball offered too much.

He took 2-16, the second of them the dismissal of Alex Evans to seal the victory for Walden.

Skipper Josh Down said: "It was an absolutely fantastic win in our local derby against such a strong team. Sawston have won the league two years on the trot now.

"The pitch was wet and as captain I made our task near impossible by losing the toss but I am immensely proud of the resilience of the players to pull off a great win.

"It was fabulous to see Jake make his debut and I look forward to see more of his positivity around the club."

Back at the Anglo-American Playing Fields, Walden made it two from two over Sawston, needing just 40 overs to score the necessary runs for a seven-wicket victory.

Brynn Mendel (41), Giles Ecclestone (37*), Stanley Leech (34*), Luke Swanston (32) and Jack Sneath (20) were in form with the bat while Neil Henderson was the most deadly of the bowlers, claiming 3-17.

The Women's & Girls' side were beaten by eight wickets at home to Thriplow, Emma Borgeson getting 30 not out.

Aythorpe Roding found defending Mid Essex Cricket League Premier Division champions, Noak Hill Taveners, too tough a nut to crack as they lost by 109 runs at their Round Bush Green home.

Noak Hill won the toss and made 261-9, predominantly because of 109 from number three, Muhammad Faizan.

Neil Cullerton (2-34), Joe Grant (2-41), Graham Milbank (2-47) and Fred Dutton (2-49) led the bowling, Manith De Silva getting one wicket.

Like the visitors, Aythorpe Roding made a slow start and lost quick wickets and three superb catches to dismiss Culleton (21), Luke Wharton (29) and Callum Darby (14) turned the game permanently away from their grasp.

Milbank was unbeaten on 44, including two sixes and three fours, but they were all out for 152 in 33 overs.

Saturday was also not one of the best in the history of High Roding as both the first and second teams lost heavily.

The ones lost by 82 runs to Little Baddow who had scored 195-7 batting first.

Sam South took two wickets for Roding, as did Angus Burns, but although South got 16 in reply, 40 from Henry Willis was their top score and they were out for 113.

The seconds could only manage 87 runs at Chelmsford Super Kings, who rattled off the required runs for the loss of four wickets.

Richter Vanbeek top scored with 25 while Nad Kumarapperuma took 2-14 in his nine overs.
