The success keeps coming for Will Gilbank as he translated his road form on to the boards.

The British Junior National Track Championships told place at the Geraint Thomas Velodrome in Newport with 17-year-old Gilbank contesting a number of disciplines.

And it all began in superb style as he used the fitness that took him to a National Series Road Race win, by taking a silver in the scratch race.

The event is essentially the first one across the line after 80 laps of the velodrome and the 20-strong field made the racing hard and fast.

After many attacks in which Gilbank was active, a lap had been gained by the eventual winner, Ben Marsh, but Gilbank, undeterred, continued to attack and he made the decisive move with nine laps to go, gapping the bunch and hanging onto take second.

A day later it was the 3km individual pursuit and although there wasn't a medal, there was a new PB of three minutes 26.8 seconds at an average speed of 52.2kph.

The final day saw him in the points race, an event in which he won silver at one year earlier.

The problem was it came after the kilo and in particular the day's warm-up.

During that a fellow rider slid down the banking and took out Gilbank, leaving him with abrasions to the body and a hole in his wheel.

He did get up and tackle the 1km time trial but his effort was below par and the points race proved a step too far for the battered athlete.
